Visit the Great Lakes Maritime Center and Vantage Point!
|
|
The Great Lakes Maritime Center (GLMC) offers a variety of opportunities to learn about the history and current events of the Great Lakes. Video formats, displays, and speaker programs present a wide range of information.
In an old train depot near the Maritime Cener, you will find the World Headquarters of BoatNerd.com. It is the most widely-used website for Great Lakes maritime information. A live underwater camera (inside the Maritime Center) lets you view activity under the St. Clair River. Plus, a displayed schedule of ship travels - in actual time - is available.
The Maritime Center is at the junction of the Black and St. Clair Rivers. You can watch graceful freighters pass right in front of you - less than a quarter mile away. You can sit on a sun-soaked deck or watch from a warm, dry room inside.

Have a fresh cup of coffee or hot chocolate with a fresh-baked donut, cup of soup, or sandwich at Coffee Harbor. Or step outside (except during winter months) to the "Anchor Fries" French fries truck and have some delicious fries - prepared before your eyes from freshly cut potatoes.
|
Bring your fishing gear and try your luck in what some consider one of the best fishing spots around (but you didn't hear it here!).
Or, maybe buy a couple of ice cream cones from the Y-Knot Ice Cream Trailer (except during winter months) before you take your sweetie for a walk along the shoreline of the St. Clair River some cool, summer evening.
A wind turbine and solar panel facility, owned and operated by the St. Clair County Regional Education Service Agency (RESA), was dedicated in 2010 at Vantage Point. Information from the turbine and panels will be downloaded onto a website, which will be shared with the St. Clair County Community College to be used during classes teaching alternative energy.
